RACE REPORT – ZONA CENTRO SUD – RD4 – CASTELVOLTURNO

Also the third round of the Rotax Max Challenge in the Centro-sud area is now behind, two weeks were really challenging for Pilots and Teams: first the Mojo Trophy on the circuit of Franciacorta and, after a few days, to follow, the 7th City Cup of Castel Volturno valevole as the fourth test of Zone.

As already happened in the Castrezzato test, the weather has played its leading role, leaving in uncertainty for a long time the contenders. At the end of Saturday's releases few, very few, could say they had clear ideas on how to deal with Sunday's trials. Then on the day of the race a truce of Jupiter torpedo allowed to have a dry track.

It was definitely an important test for what the results, between surprises or confirmations, gave us, but we go by order and see the chronicle of the races starting from the little ones, from the Mini. In qualifying Giovanni Calandro he takes his first Pole position with great satisfaction for his team that he married with conviction project and philosophy Rotax. The detachment seems to shelter it from surprises but a uncertainty in departure allows to Nicola Murano, very good start, to go to the head and, with a careful and unfair race conduct, to win race 1. Third place Antonio Salma, also at his second race in category, fourth the leader of the general classification Gabriele Giannatiempo that seems to suffer the circuit of the Volturno valley. In the final Calandro surprises Murano and goes to the head and with a series of fast turns wins the race 2 with a discreet advantage adjusting Murano, Salma and Giannatiempo. The latter remains at the head of the Mini Zone 2.

In DD2 Francesco Palladino (Laudato Racing) confirms the good moment of shape by conquering the P1 in qualifying, race 1 and race 2, scoring the best lap in both tests. Excellent performance, always in the head from the street to the chess flag. Second position Ennio while the third place is placed Francesco Del Grosso. Palladino consolidates the primacy in the general classification.

In the DD2 masters, as usual, the race is quite uncertain. A group of drivers battles already from some races alternating in the conquest of the highest step of the podium, is a family struggle, in fact, all drivers are enrolled by Laudato Racing except Rega. In qualifying Marco Valestra to conquer the best position on the grid but Giuseppe Posillo is there at only 7millesimi, follows Max Cioffi, Bruno Rega and Gianluca Iervolino. At the start of Race 1 part well Valestra who manages to hold the head of the master group followed by Posillo while Cioffi loses a position in favor of Rega that fits into the third square. The situation will remain unchanged until the chess flag. Given this, we would expect a second rather quiet race with crystallized values, but, as they say, the beauty of motorsport is that nothing is discounted. On the way, Valestra has a certain uncertainty also from a bit of initial bagarre and finds itself in the backroads while Posillo and Cioffi proceed with regular step gaining valuable tenths while the winner of last national final has difficulty to overcome Rega that defends with great determination the position. On the seventh of the twenty laps in program the pilot of Sorrento, seeing that the duo of the head departed, breaks the garments and attacks with greater decision but a contact between the two puts it out. At the finish line Posillo precedes Cioffi of 4 seconds and 9 tenths that are not enough to neutralize the penalty of 5 seconds inflicted on him for musetto returned. Cioffi wins and takes the podium Posillo and Rega. They close Iervolino and the unfortunate Valestra.

Now the calendar gives a long break until the first weekend of July when will be the beautiful International Circuit Naples of Sarno to host Rd#5 of the RMCI of Central-South Zone.
