Yesterday, at the International Circuit of Viterbo, the eleventh edition of the Rotax Mojo Trophy, valid as the North Zone Championship, South Centre and as the first stage of the National Trophy Rotax Italy 2023.
As a sport regulation, in fact, the classification of race-2 assigns valid points as the first heat of the National Trophy 2023, instead unchanged the rules of allocation of points on race-1 and race-2 for the classifications of zone.
Changed weather conditions throughout the weekend, with an unusually cool climate for the period, but fortunately, Sunday races were held linearly and with dry track.
The Rotax Mini was the most fun and uncertain category of the entire race weekend. The pole man Andrea Lavazza (Krono Racing) saw his leadership immediately under siege by the team mate Paolo De Grandi, who takes the first position immediately after the race-1 route and, taking advantage of the bagarre between Lavazza and the leader of the north championship Nik Berceij, takes a slight margin that will lead him to the victory of race-1, with an excellent Giovanni Pistore (Drake Motorsport) who also took advantage of the fourth baggatore In race-2 it is still very tight fight among the first, with Lavazza that this time manages to tick it on Berceij and De Grandi.
Much less uncertainty reigned in the Rotax Junior, which sees in Kiko Fracassi (Infinity) the weekend leader, with pole position and victory in both races per detachment. In race-1 the fight for the P2 has rewarded a reassembly Diego Triggianese, who, taken fifth, reassembled to the square of honor, with Lorenzo Giaquinto (MKC) who manages to climb up to the third place after a bad start of race, with a surprise on the team mate Matteo Natino right in the final round. In race-2, behind the always fugitive Fracassi, Lorenzo Giaquinto, who tries from mid-race onwards to close the gap with Fracassi, who, however, in excellent management of the race, always maintains 2 seconds of margin. To close the podium is Natino, which precedes Badoni and Triggianese to completion of the top-5.
Less warm than usual the Rotax Max, which, this time, has in Elia Pappacena (MKC) the perfect dominator. In qualifying, the pole is of the Helvetic driver, in front of Pietro Pons (LKA). In the second row Nicola Guerra and Giacomo Marchioro, portacolori of the Infinity team. At the start Pappacena he starts very well, dragging himself behind War and Marchioro, with Pons losing positions both by Matteo Pianezzola (54SC), and by Marco Bernardi (Krono). The serpentine of the race remains unchanged until the end, with Pappacena winner on War and Marchioro. The scene hit is in the post-race, where War sees losing the P2 for underweight. In race-2 Pappacena immediately takes off, also helped by bagarre behind him with protagonists Matteo Pianezzola and the duo LKA composed by Pons and Perduca. In the second position, Bernardi added to the final, but the positions remain substantially unchanged, with Pappacena winning on Pianezzola, Pons, Perduca and Bernardi.
Appena 1 centesimo separa i primi due piloti della Rotax DD2 dopo le prove cronometrate, con Leonardo Baccaglini (Drake Motorsport) che ottiene la pole position su Michael Rosina (54 SC). Allo spegnimento dei semafori, è bruciante la partenza di Rosina, che passa in testa davanti a Baccaglini e Daniel Giliberti (infinity). I primi 3 prendono gap, mentre, alle loro spalle, Francesco Palladino (Laudato Racing) riesce a sorpassare Bertocco, per poi avviarsi a chiudere il gap da Giliberti per la P3, senza mai però riuscire ad attaccarlo. Vince Rosina su Baccaglini e Giliberti. In gara-2 Rosina parte bene ed allunga subito, mentre Baccaglini deve sorpassare Giliberti, che dopo un ottimo avvio, si era inserito in seconda posizione. Al secondo giro, anche Palladino riesce a sorpassare Giliberti, che sarà poi costretto al ritiro a seguito di un contatto nella bagarre con Bertocco e Trolese (anche’egli attardato dai contatti). Doppia vittoria quindi per Rosina, con il podio di gara-2 completato da Baccaglini e Palladino. Nella DD2 Master doppia vittoria per Federico Rossi (54SC), autore di una grande rimonta in gara-1 dopo essere rimasto attardato per contatti al via, mentre in gara-2 ha controllato il diretto rivale Domenico Palumbo, che ha chiuso entrambe le gare al secondo posto.
I prossimi appuntamenti Rotax Italia avranno luogo sul Cremona Circuit il 4 Giugno per quel che concerne la zona Nord, ed il 2 Luglio a Casaluce per la zona Centro Sud.
La prossima gara con valenza nazionale si disputerà invece a Castelletto di Branduzzo il 17 Settembre.
